In 1945, Grover L. Walker, Jr. and John P. Walker, Sr. established Walker-J-Walker as a family enterprise. Today, what began as a small company working mainly on coal furnaces has evolved into a multi-million dollar business that services and installs state-of-the-art HVAC systems. Our specialties include -- but are not limited to -- heating, air conditioning, ventilation, sheet metal work, piping and energy management.
When the company chose John P. Walker, Jr. as president and CEO, Walker-J-Walker entered its third generation of family management. Before joining the company, John earned his bachelor's in business administration from the University of Tennessee and served in the military for two years. In addition, he was MMCA president for two years. Mike Walker, another University of Tennessee graduate, and Tish Walker-Bartlett, a University of Missouri graduate, further strengthened the company's Walker tradition.
In 1975, we established a full-line service department, which is currently under the leadership of Brad Bartlett, another University of Missouri grad. As vice-president of service operations, he oversees a staff of 37 technicians. He also ensures that someone is on standby to handle client emergencies 24 hours a day.
For more than a quarter of a century, our controls department has been helping clients operate their facilities more efficiently and cost effectively. The department services all makes and models of direct digital control (DDC) systems, including Trane, Carrier, and Honeywell. In addition, we have been a Novar dealer since 1985 and are currently a Trend Technology Center serving the Mid-South.
